USA-MADE GOURMET LIQUIDS ARE HERE!Sierra Smoke liquids are made in the USA to our specifications. Available up to 36mg, these liquids are a little more expensive than our PV and Liberty liquids, but our initial feedback is overwhelmingly positive. We've been searching for a USA-made liquid for a long time and this is the first atomizer-friendly USA liquid that we've found. Lots of unique flavors and the flavors are stronger and cleaner than the other liquids with NO atomizer clogging.

1. How does an electronic cigarette work?

Electronic cigarettes have 3 main components - Atomizer, Battery, and Cartridge. The battery is the longest part of the electronic cigarette, and takes the position of the tobacco in a regular cigarette. The cartridge contains a liquid (which contains flavors and, if desired, nicotine) and takes the position of the filter in a regular cigarette. In between the battery and the cartridge is the heart of the electronic cigarette - the atomizer. The atomizer takes the electricity from the battery and the liquid from the cartridge and uses an internal heating coil to vaporize the liquid and produce a vapor that tastes and feels similar to, but not exactly like, tobacco cigarette smoke.

There are a few disposable electronic cigarettes, and there are a few 2-piece designs where the atomizer and cartridge are combined into a single sealed unit, but nearly all electronic cigarettes are the 3-piece design made with rechargeable lithium-ion batteries.

Please be warned that electronic cigarettes are not simple to use. There is a learning curve, and it usually takes new users a week or two to really learn how to use electronic cigarettes and get high performance out of them. Just like a cigarette smoker who changes over to pipe-smoking, it takes a little knowledge and practice. Reading the manual thoroughly is a must, and patience is a big plus. We are always available to help out if you need a little coaching.

2. What's in the cartridges and liquids? Is it safe?

The main ingredient in electronic cigarette liquid is propylene glycol (PG). Some of the studies on inhalation of propylene glycol have shown that about 5% of people have minor allergic reactions with extended inhalation, so alternate PG-Free liquids have been developed that use polyethelene glycol (PEG) and/or vegetable glycerin (VG).

In addition to PG/PEG/VG, electronic cigarette liquid contains water, ethyl alcohol (the same alcohol in liquor, beer and wine), and food-grade artifical flavorings.

The nicotine in high quality liquids comes from tobacco absolute, a distilled extract from natural tobacco. Other liquids may be made using synthetic chemical nicotine. All nicotine-containing liquids sold on this website are made with tobacco absolute.

While research on PG inhalation has been conducted, there are no known long-term clinical studies on the effects of PG inhalation through the use of electronic cigarettes. The only preliminary research we know of is that conducted by HealthNZ, an organization committed to reducing cigarette smoking in New Zealand. Please take the time to read their research report, along with all other available material, and draw your own conclusions.

3. Will an electronic cigarette improve my health?

There have been no long-term clinical studies and electronic cigarettes have not been evaluated by the FDA. They are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease, including nicotine addiction or the smoking habit.

If you are a smoker, you know how bad it is for you. The American Lung Association says "cigarette smoke contains over 4,800 chemicals, 69 of which are known to cause cancer. Smoking is directly responsible for approximately 90 percent of lung cancer deaths and approximately 80-90 percent of COPD (emphysema and chronic bronchitis) deaths." When using an electronic cigarette, the liquid is not burned but merely atomized. There are no combustion by-products in electronic cigarettes.

At this time, there just isn't enough information available to determine the long-term effects of electronic cigarette use. All you can do is gather all the information available, and make a decision based on what you think is right. If you feel you need more information, Vapers Forum has a lot more information regarding electronic cigarette health issues.

Also, if you check out electronic cigarette forums on the web, you'll probably be interested in hearing what other users have to say about how they feel about electronic cigarettes and their health.

4. What are some of the benefits of using an electronic cigarette?

NO MORE STINKING UP THE ROOM!
The vapor emitted by the electronic cigarette is basically odorless. If you blow it straight into the face of someone with a hyper-sensitive nose, they may be able to catch the slightest odor. Otherwise, you could vape away all day in a room and nobody would ever smell it. This also means:

NO MORE REEKING CLOTHES, SMELLY CAR, STINKY HOUSE, AND YELLOW WALLS!
The vapor from a electronic cigarette dissipates quickly and cleanly. There's no tar and other chemicals to absorb into clothing and walls.

NO MORE DIRTY ASHTRAYS AND CIGARETTE BUTTS!
If you're tired of the mess made by cigarette butts and ashes all over the place, you'll appreciate the clean operation of the electronic cigarette. Help save the landfills!

YOU WON'T HAVE NASTY SMOKER'S BREATH!
Depending on the flavor you use, your breath will range anywhere from neutral to even sweet. The menthol flavors leave your mouth feeling like you just had a mint, and the other flavors can sweeten your breath just like a candy or fruit without the sugar and food particles that cause bad breath.

YOU'LL SAVE MONEY!
Governments just keep upping the taxes on tobacco products. Who knows when cigarettes will hit $10 a pack? The typical pack-a-day smoker uses approximately 2-3ml of liquid per day. When you combine this with replacement costs for electronic cigarette components, the long-term cost averages out to be about $2-3 a day.

ELECTRONIC CIGARETTES DO NOT VIOLATE MOST SMOKING BANS!
Most smoking bans are laws against the burning of tobacco. With an electronic cigarette, you are not burning anything and there is no tobacco. This does not mean you can "smoke anywhere" as some disreputable companies are claiming. Remember, when you're in someone else's establishment, it's their business. Be courteous, explain what you're doing, and you may be received in a positive manner. Some businesses have chosen to ban electronic cigarette use, so always check before using your electronic cigarette in public places.

5. Is the electronic cigarette designed to help me quit smoking?

NO!  Electronic cigarettes, including those sold myPVshop.com, have not been approved by the FDA as a NRT (nicotine replacement therapy) device. Unlike nicotine gum, patches, and inhalers, the personal vaporizer completely imitates the action, feel, and quick nicotine effects of smoking.

myPVshop.com does not sell electronic cigarettes as quit-smoking devices, as there are no clinical studies regarding their efficacy for this purpose. We offer electronic cigarettes simply as an enjoyable device which can be viewed as an alternative to smoking.

6. How long should my electronic cigarette last?

Electronic cigarettes are designed so that the batteries and atomizers can be easily replaced when they wear out. This is because these are relatively new devices whose design and manufacture has not yet been perfected. If you think about it, it's amazing how well they do work. It takes a lot of heat to vaporize liquids, and those tiny batteries do an excellent job over and over again. The stress on the heating coil is tremendous, yet it works for thousands of uses. E-cigs are nowhere near perfect, but they already do an outstanding job with a reasonable lifetime.

ATOMIZERS - The life of atomizers varies by model, but 3-6 weeks at pack-a-day volume is typical. Electronic cigarette users who use menthol and menthol blends seem to get much longer life out of their atomizers. We have found that there is a huge difference in quality among electronic cigarettes, so myPVshop.com does not sell knockoffs. We have also found that the primary cause for premature atomizer failure is the use of unsuitable liquids. Please see our warranty page for more information.

BATTERIES - Manufacturers and some retailers tend to be dishonest about battery duration and life. Most claim that all batteries last for about 6 - 8 cigarettes equivalent and can be recharged 300 times.

The truth is, battery duration varies greatly among individual batteries due to factors such as shelf-life and production quality control. The batteries in some of the smaller units only stay strong enough to perform well for about 2 - 3 cigarettes equivalent. After that, they just don't have enough charge left to give a suitable amount of vapor. The batteries in the larger models last longer, but still tend to not produce enough vapor when their charge starts to weaken. In our experience, the best estimates of useful battery duration are:

ModelCigarettes Equivalent
M4014 - 8
Joye5104 - 6
RN40755 - 10
RN40726 - 12
RN406210 - 15
DSE60115 - 25

Also, batteries don't last for 300 charge cycles. After 100-150 charges they just won't hold a strong enough charge to give full vapor production for more than half the time they did when new.

CARTRIDGES - If you've been checking out the other companies that sell electronic cigarettes, you'll have heard that one cartridge equals a pack of cigarettes. DON'T BELIEVE IT! These people are lying to you trying to convince you what a remarkable deal it is.

The truth is, the cartridge in the smallest units only last for about 3-4 cigarettes equivalent. In our experience, the best estimates are:

ModelCigarettes Equivalent
M4012 -4
Joye5103 - 5
RN40754 - 8
RN40725 - 10
RN40628 - 15
DSE60110 - 20

These estimates based upon our personal experiences. Your experience may vary.

Cartridge Refilling and Restuffing - Cartridges can be refilled to save money and improve flavor/strength selection, and can be restuffed to provide better performance and save money. Most kits come with 5 cartridges, and these can be re-used over and over again. Many users can go for months without having to buy extra cartridges.

7. Why are there so many different models? Which model is the best?

There is no "best" electronic cigarette, and there is no "perfect" electronic cigarette. Each model has its strong points and its weak points. For a quick rundown on the pros and cons of each model, please see our comparison page.

For new users, we highly recommend the 510/eGo as it mimics the taste and feel of a tobacco cigarette more closely than any other electronic cigarette available.

If you have any questions about the different models, or if you would like to discuss electronic cigarettes with a knowledgeable representative, please feel free to call or email us anytime.

8. Where can I find more information about electronic cigarettes?

We highly recommend checking out the Vapers Forum and e-cigarette-forum websites if you are thinking about purchasing an electronic cigarette. There are thousand of users discussing all things e-cig, and lots of information available. Unfortunately, there are also a lot of retailers and manufacturers posing as regular users, and there is A LOT of disinformation all over the web. Take everything you hear with a healthy amount of skepticism, and please feel free to contact us with any questions you may have.
